Are you a hummus fan?

I am not a big fan of plain chickpea hummus, however I love flavored hummus. In fact, I’ve already make a few you might like to try:

Hummus Recipes

Flavored Hummus

Although I like hummus, I never buy the store bought versions, because I am not a huge fan of tahini and I usually find it overpowering in those versions. In mine, I go light on the tahini and in fact, the Spinach Hummus referenced above contains no tahini at all so it is allergen free for those with nut/seed allergies. However, you can customize this recipe as you like and if you are one of those tahini lovers, have at it and go crazy!

Hummus Party Platter Ideas

Flavored Hummus is a great way to make a party platter. I usually make a triad of hummus flavors. With the use of canned chickpeas, these come together so quickly. Just add your favorite veggie, desired amount of tahini, cumin, paprika, parsley, lemon juice and garlic. Serve with pita and party platter done!

However, hummus can be used for so much more as dip with chips or pita bread.

7 Ways to Use Hummus

  • Pasta Sauce (thin it out with a little water if necessary)
  • Sandwich Spread
  • Dip
  • Base for Creamy Salad Dressing
  • Healthy Mashed Potatoes (replace the milk/cream with hummus)
  • Healthy Deviled Eggs (replace the mayo with hummus)
  • Sour Cream replacement (wherever sour cream is used as a binder in recipes, replace with healthy hummus)

You can customize and add other spices as you desire. Fennel is a spice that goes very well with carrots. So I added some fennel to add a slightly different flavor profile. This also keeps it interesting so if you are serving several different kinds of hummus, play around with the spices a little so they don’t end up tasting too similar, despite the use of different vegetables.

That extra garnish of olive oil and sumac makes all the difference!

  1. Carrot hummus is colorful with green specks of parsley and mint. I had beetroot hummus on my list for colorful food theme but held back. Carrot hummus with a touch of sumac sounds flavorful.

  2. Hello carrot hummus! Come to mama! I just learned how to make hummus (yes, I am late , I know). Lats week I made pumpkin hummus, and it was great. Where I live pumpkin season is brief. I am excited to try this carrot hummus, since carrots are available year round.

    • I love how versatile hummus is and how many different flavors you can make of it – I’ve made pumpkin hummus before and it is delicious! I am sure you will love this carrot version as much as you do the pumpkin!

  3. I like the idea of different hummus flavors when entertaining! That way everyone can have their favorites. I just assumed tahini was a required ingredient, so never thought to cut back or eliminate. Good to know!

    • In traditional hummus tahini is required but some people like me with nut allergies I am very sensitive to some people who are allergic to all nuts and seeds – that is why I had made an allergen free one without tahini. Hummus is such a customizable condiment you can alter it to your palate preference.

  4. Hummus isn’t my favorite dip / sauce either. I find it a little boring, at times. So adding other vegetables and more spices sounds like a fabulous idea. Fennel seeds sounds delicious in this!

  5. I never buy they store bought versions of hummus either! Such a waste of money. And although I have been making many different types of hummus, I never tried carrot hummus. Great recipe to start with!

  6. I simply loved this idea of making a hummus with carrot and it is such an awesome dip with chips or a spread with some bread and a good way to sneak in those veggies. Bookmarked this.
