I recently joined a Recipe Swap group where every month we recreate a recipe from one of the other participating bloggers. My partner this month was Trisha’s Dishes. Her recipes are simple and easy, but quite a departure from my cooking style, so it was rather challenging to pick a recipe to try. Finally, I decided on this simple slow cooker recipe – an excuse to bring my slow cooker into daylight from the back of the kitchen pantry. Check out this Creamy #SlowCooker Broccoli for a simple side dish. With only four ingredients, you can’t ask for anything more simple than that?
I only made a few minor changes. Instead of frozen broccoli, I used fresh broccoli. I like the bite of the fresh broccoli that was still there although it was cooked through. I can’t stand soft mushy vegetables and especially broccoli.
Although I love broccoli now, I hated it as a child. From my experience as a nursery school chef, I can tell you that many children hate broccoli. It’s really about the texture as most of them don’t have any problems with cauliflower because it has a smoother texture. This recipe is a great idea to try to get your broccoli hating kids to eat the vegetable. This creamy and cheesy broccoli side dish may not be the healthiest dish in the world, but still an inventive way to get your kids to eat broccoli. This is definitely a #kidfriendly recipe.
It’s creamy and luscious texture makes it the perfect side dish to accompany any meal!
