A Foodie’s Paradise in Kansas City

A week of absence…did you miss me? I’ve missed blogging and getting all the feedback you guys are always so generous with, but this was a super busy week for me.

Very last minute planning with my ticket purchased just 4 days before, I hopped on a plane halfway across the country to attend my very first blogging conference #GoBlogSocial in the city of fountains – Kansas City.

Blogging Conference at Berg Event Space

Restaurant reviews, tips to bloggers and many other in depth posts will be forthcoming in the upcoming weeks. For now, here is just an overview in pictures of my trip to Kansas City.

I was going to attend the conference, but not expecting much culinarily (is that a word?) speaking – boy was I wrong. I guess I have been living in my New York City conceit by mistakenly thinking the Midwest was a cultural desert. Middle Eastern Spice Shops, Thai Noodle Shops and so much more awaited me in Kansas City.

I was like a kid in a toy store at City Market – thank God it was open on Easter Sunday otherwise I would have missed the farmers coming out with their produce and fresh Middle Eastern spices that are brought in from California every week instead of sitting on a supermarket shelf for weeks or even months

BBQ – Kansas City is really proud of their BBQ. My hotel had been recently renovated with theme rooms to represent different parts of Kansas City. Of course, the chef got the BBQ themed hotel room with an actual BBQ smoker among other things in my hotel room..yes the headboard of my bed is also a smoker!

Who doesn’t love chocolate right…well as most of my readers know I am more of a fruit based dessert person, but for the chocolate lovers out there, there are a number of specialty shops that will put you in your daily chocolate coma…just heavenly. Chip’s Chocolate Factory was just one of several chocolate stops in the city.

If coffee is your thing, a tour through the Roasterie to find out why Kansas City’s home roasted blend is so popular is not to be missed.

For a food blogger, Function Junction had me in prop heaven…tears were on the brink when I realized I would never be able to pack all I wanted to get… unless I wanted to pay luggage overweight.

I also learned so much from the blogging conference and met a lot of new blogging friends from all over the country. Not to mention, a quick post in a facebook group connected me to a Kansas City native blogger who became my personal tour guide, even though she didn’t attend the conference. She’s coming to NY this summer to attend the Blog Her conference and I will get the opportunity to reciprocate. New friendships formed!

This blog is going to undergo a whole new rebirth…with a new name and a new look, but will still continue to bring you dynamic international recipes. Please join me on this journey and come along for the fantastic ride!

One of the new things you can look forward to is Travel Tuesdays. When I first started this blog, I had intended it to be a Travel & Food blog, but due to life circumstances, my travel opportunities weren’t forthcoming. However, I have traveled to a lot of places and there is always just plain old research. If you like to travel, start to tune in every Tuesday for all sorts of information about fun stuff to do both locally as well as in other destinations…

and if you can’t wait to check out all the fun stuff I did in Kansas City and all the stuff I continue to do..before it makes it to the blog…just follow me on instagram!

  1. I would never have thought of Kansas City as a foodie destination! Your photos had me drooling though, so I need to change my opinion! Hope you enjoyed your blogging conference – I am yet to pluck up the courage to go to something like that but they look so fun!

  2. Wow! It really looks like foodie’s paradise. The chocolate chip factory and home roasted coffee would be on top of my list. Food Junction is another amazing place to shop for the lovely kitchen items. Great you enjoyed your conference and made new friends while relishing the delicious food. 🙂

  3. Ha ha, I am laughing about the smoker headboard. I am hungry right now and now I have BBQ on the mind! Between chocolate and BBQ I think I have found my reason to visit Kansas City!
