Cinco de Mayo is celebrated primarily in the Mexican state of Pueblo and in the United States. Although it is internationally recognized as a day to celebrate Mexican pride, it is not their independence day and is not celebrated in much of Mexico. It is recognition of Mexico’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.
NY celebrated Cinco de Mayo in a big way – you will find discounts at most bars so it is definitely the night to do a Pub Crawl.
This year Cinco de Mayo is the day of the Grand Opening of the Water Taxi Beach and Beer Garden at South Street Seaport. Festivities start at 4pm and specials will include $3 Dos Equis drafts and Margaritas, as well as $2 quesadillas and burritos.
I also encourage you to stop by my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city, Rosa Mexicana and enjoy the guacamole which is made table side, right in front of your very eyes!!! And don’t forget to try their amazing Pomegranta Margarita!!!
Eat and Drink Mexican tonight and celebrate the Battle of Puebla!
