Pastechi, akin to an empanada or a meat patty is one Aruba's most popular snacks!

Tuna or Cheese are the most popular fillings but they can be filled with just about anything!

There is no better representation of a culture than it's cuisine.

Step 1

Make the pastry.  A flaky short cut pastry is made with flour, eggs and butter.

Chop the veggies. Onion, Garlic, Bell Pepper, Celery, Tomatoes, Scotch Bonnet Peppers are used in this delicious pastechi recipe.

Saute the veggies. Stir fry the veggies so they can soften and make the tuna filling more delicious

Step 4

Add the flavorings. Ketchup, mustard, capers, raisins make the perfect balance of savory, salty and sweet flavors.

Add the tuna. Break up the tuna and mix well with a little parsley and lemon juice..

Step 6

Fill the pastry. After the pastry is rolled out, cut out circles and add the tuna filling. Then seal them up!

Fry them up. They can be deep fried or made in the Air Fryer
